Automotive Paint Waste Disposal Service

A workshop produces several paint wastes at once: basecoat and clearcoat offcuts, spent gun wash, primer residue, aerosols from small repairs, and rags and masking contaminated with solvent. Each has its own handling and disposal route, so they need to be kept apart before they leave the site.

We arrange collections around how the workshop works, whether that is a periodic round of drums from a busy refinisher or an occasional clear-out of old stock and booth filters. Tell us what you store and roughly how much, and we advise on packaging and confirm the arrangements.

Who We Collect From

  • Vehicle body and refinish shops
  • Smart repair and mobile paint technicians
  • Fleet and commercial vehicle workshops
  • Commercial spray booth operators
  • Motor trade training centres

Before We Collect

  • Keep gun wash and thinners in their own sealed containers, apart from paint tins.
  • Store aerosols upright and away from heat, and tell us if any are damaged or leaking.
  • Keep filters, rags and masking in a closed bin rather than loose in a skip.
  • Have product names or safety data sheets to hand where you can.

Why Automotive Paint Waste Must Be Disposed Of Professionally

Workshop paint waste usually combines flammable solvents, pressurised cans and contaminated materials, so it cannot be treated like ordinary trade waste.

  1. 01Gun wash and spent thinners are flammable and usually classed as hazardous waste.
  2. 02Aerosols stay pressurised and can burst if they are crushed or heated.
  3. 03Solvent soaked rags, masking and PPE need their own disposal route.
  4. 04Booth filters and residue boards hold a mix of coatings and dust.
  5. 05Hazardous loads need consignment paperwork before they leave your site.
  6. 06Waste producers are responsible for classifying the waste they generate.
Automotive paint waste recycling

Recycling

Can You Recycle Automotive Paint Waste?

Some of it, yes. Solvent based gun wash and thinners can often be distilled so the solvent is recovered, and sound metal tins can be recycled once they are empty. Mixed residues, booth filters and contaminated materials usually go for recovery or treatment instead. Tell us what you have and we confirm the route before collection.
